Best psychobilly song that describes the scene: ''Moonlight Shadows'' by Mad Sin. It has the rockabilly atmosphere but yet fast and wild. Not punk in any way. Real minimalistic sound. Simple drums. Psychotic guitarsolos. Based on rockabilly fifties basic chords and great vox by Koefte. It has the right feel. My favourite song though is ''You're dead'' by the Quakes but that's a bit more punk so I guess Moonlight Shadows describe it better.

In 1984 the Boppin´Kids, still in their teens, started as a visibly underage rockabilly trio. Playing wild rock´n´roll sessions after school in their hot hot hot italian hometown.
Following a few school gigs and some hiccups with the legal system, in ´86 the band signed up with Rock 86/Polygram Rec and their first album "Go wild" immediately entered the national charts with the much celebrated "Tainted Love". Radio, press and national TV recognized their talent and contributed to spread the Boppin Kids mania around. The Kidz of course attracted the more hardcore rock´n´roll crowd, but strangely enough, they were also saluted as a teen idol band by their more mainstream younger followers. Fans started to come from everywhere to see their show and never got disappointed.
The shows were always wild, raw and outrageous and the band´s live act was labelled as an authentic "earthquake"!!! The BK used to appear on stage bare-chested playing and furious tunes, brilliant guitar sounds and a ´master blaster` slap-bass, screamin´ and jumpin´ all over the stage. The Boppin Kids loved violation and stretching to the utmost the sounds of many glorious artists, from Johnny Cash, Curtis Gordon, the Sonics, Hasil Hadkins to Motorhead, Tommy Steel and the Meteors, mixing together rock´n´roll, rockabilly, gothic, psychobilly, punk, surf influences and 60´s garage into a galactic 100% Italian cocktail! In the 80s European climate of rockabilly revival the Boppin´Kids found themselves pushed to fame, with over 200 gigs a year across the country and were turned overnight into a huge and fast success phenomenon? Too fast? Too furious??
With the 1987 EP Still rockin and the 1989 album "Just for fun", their records were played all over Europe, and even in Japan!
The Stray Cats made their first and only Italian show in 1989 at the Rolling Stone in Milano and The Boppin Kids were special guests with the Guana Batz. The Boppin Kids also supported many other international acts, such as Mano Negra, the Pogues, the Cramps, Tav Falco, Violent Femmes, the Meteors, touring until 1990. In 1991 after 7 years of recording, heavy touring across the world and equally heavy dinking, the 3 "rude boys" finally split up in 1991. Following the BK adventure, Boppin Orazio Grillo, band founder, re-invented himself as Brando, starting a solo career as musican and music producer.
In February 2008, having been away from the rockin´ scene for more than 20 years, the Boppin Kids decided it was the right time to come back, with a new double bass player and a brand new album " Last Train to Hell" coming soon!
The Boppin´Kids played the Psychobilly Festival at Pineda del Mar, to announce theire official return to the world! Following shows Antwerpen Old School Rockabilly Psychosis, Potsdam, Senigallia once again with the Stray Cats for thei farewell tour and several shows all over the country.
A brand new album is working progress for the last one year, coming out hopefull 2012 seems to be the LAST and the Best One!
Fireball XL 5 originated from Norwich in early 1982. The band was formed by Mark Kelf (v) and his schoolmate Kevin Parfitt (d). They added Jonny Bridgwood (b) and Mark " Thorny" Thorne (g) and the band was named after the early 1960s Gerry Anderson animated TV series. An early lineup reshuffle brought in Neil " Mustard " Samuel on rhythm guitar and Kevin was replaced by Ian Cooper on drums.
The quintet started to gig around and recorded a ten track demo, that was send-among others- to Northwood Records. The band eventually had two 7´´ vinyl releases and a complete work album with the record company, everything produced by Rockabilly guru Boz Boorer. In December 1984 Thorne and Jon Bridgwood- who went on to join the Sting-Rays- left the band mostly due to musical differences. Mark Kelf tried to renew the band with Gavin Peak (b) and a guy called Robin on guitar, but the original magic was gone. About a year later Fireball XL 5 called it a day.
Fireball XL 5 emerged in the very early 80´s with their unique mixture of raw Rockabilly and Hillbilly, blended with a decent dose of punk energy and an enthusiastic style of play, which they called themselves " epileptic hillbilly "back then. Their reputation as crowd pleasers made them a well received support act for premier bands such as The Meteors or Guana Batz. Mark Kelf has continued his musical career up to these days in Mark Kelf & The Valley Boys.

Uma das mais ativas e batalhadoras bandas da atual cena under paulistana, o Reverendo Frankenstein - formada apenas em 2012 - conta em seu line-up com músicos experientes e rodados em diversas outras bandas, entre elas nada menos que os lendários Kães Vadius. E que em determinado momento resolveram seguir novos rumos, ideias, mas sempre a serviço do bom e velho rock’n’roll. Nessa entrevista exclusiva o guitarrista Alexandre Saldanha conta toda a história e inspiração para começarem esse novo projeto e muito mais !
01-Bom, vamos começar lá pelo início; quando, como e onde surgiu o Reverendo Frankenstein? E a inspiração para o nome?
Reverendo Frankenstein começou em abril de 2012. Eu, Felipe e Fabio estávamos insatisfeitos com algumas coisas no Kães Vadius e já vínhamos conversando sobre montar uma outra banda, para aproveitar o bom relacionamento entre nós três e o nosso entrosamento musical. A nossa ideia, desde o início, era não ficar restrito ao psychobilly, já que todos mundo tem várias referências de outros estilos, daí o Fabio surgiu com a ideia do Frankenstein.
02-A banda sempre teve uma forte conexão com os lendários Kães Vadius. E praticamente são os mesmos músicos tocando nas duas bandas nos últimos anos, certo?
Exatamente, o Reverendo Frankenstein nasceu dentro do Kães Vadius. Durante as “pausas pra fumar”, a gente costumava ficar tocando outras coisas fora do repertório e brincando com ideias de riffs e levadas. Com o tempo, a gente foi amadurecendo a ideia de fazer uma outra banda.
03-Foi daí que surgiu a vontade - e talvez necessidade - de montar um projeto paralelo e seguir outro caminho? E pra conciliar as bandas foi numa boa para vocês?
Quando o Reverendo começou, eu já tinha saído do Kães Vadius e a banda estava hibernando, então foi bem tranquilo. Mesmo depois, quando a banda voltou, foi fácil conciliar as duas agendas de show, mesmo porque fizemos vários shows juntos.
04- A banda já teve algumas mudanças em sua formação, principalmente no vocal, correto? Comentem um pouco mais o assunto...
O Reverendo Frankenstein, desde o início, foi uma ideia que nasceu em conjunto entre o Fabio, Felipe e eu. Por vários motivos, os dois primeiros vocalistas não se encaixaram muito no que a gente queria e precisava, então acabaram saindo. Agora, estamos com o M.Krempel há dois anos e as coisas estão evoluindo bem.
05-Sentem que finalmente agora chegaram á estabilidade que procuravam e também a formação ideal?
Essa é a sensação que nós temos. O Matheus nunca teve contato com psychobilly antes de entrar pro Reverendo, então ele não tem alguns vícios de quem já está dentro da cena, o que é ótimo. Ele tem um histórico no punk rock com o The Bombers e traz umas referências que a gente não tem ou com coisas que a gente não se relaciona com tanta frequência, então acrescenta muito à banda. Além disso, ele também toca guitarra, o que faz diferença tanto na composição, quanto nos shows.
06- E as influências sonoras? Em minha opinião não é tão simples rotular o Reverendo Frankenstein já que é possível notar vários elementos como psychobilly, punk rock, rock’n’roll... Como definiriam o som da banda?
Nós somos um Frankenstein mesmo. Um pouco de psychobilly, um pouco de surf music, um pouco de rockabilly, punk rock, metal... Se reparar bem, você encontra vários desses elementos nas nossas músicas e nos covers que a gente coloca no repertório. Reverendo Frankenstein é uma banda de rock ‘n’ roll Frankenstein!
07- Outro ponto interessante é que optaram cantar em português. Alguma razão especial? Acham que soa melhor em nosso idioma o tipo de som que fazem?
A gente nunca discutiu muito sobre isso, foi natural. Todo mundo na banda fala português, então é assim que a gente compõe!
08- E voltando as influências sonoras, vocês poderiam citar suas bandas favoritas tanto as locais e as gringas? E as inspirações para as letras?
Tudo que a gente escuta serve de referência pra gente, mesmo que seja para “o que não fazer”! hahahah A gente gosta muito de Batmobile, Guana Batz, Ramones, Rolling Stones, surf music dos anos 60, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Autoramas, Blind Pigs, Canastra, Sick Sick Sinners, Mullet Monster Mafia.
09-Em relação aos shows, como estão as coisas atualmente os locais para tocar, público, respeito com as bandas aqui na cidade? Percebem
um cenário favorável ou ainda tem muito que evoluir e melhorar na estrutura toda?
A gente tem percebido a cena psycho diminuindo bastante. Tem um pessoal que sempre vai e um ou outro gato pingado que aparece e acaba voltando. Isso é legal e ajuda a renovar a cena. Outra coisa que a gente sempre tenta fazer é se infiltrar em outras cenas, para mostrar nosso trabalho para um público diferente, que não iria num show de psychobilly, por exemplo.
10-Quais os picos que mais curtem tocar em S.P? E fora do estado também já rolou algumas apresentações, certo?
A gente gosta muito de tocar no Inferno, na Augusta. É uma casa grande, com um estrutura de primeira e localização ótima. Trackers, no centro de São Paulo, é bem legal também, com uma estrutura bem diferente. Outra coisa que a gente gosta é ir pra outras cidades, onde a gente nunca tocou, mesmo que não seja um público “nosso”. É legal “catequizar” gente nova. A gente fez uns shows bem legais em Curitiba, Belo Horizonte e Santos, por exemplo.
11-O que tem disponível pra quem quiser escutar e conferir o som de vocês? Planos de lançar um CD e talvez até no formato vinil um dia?
Por enquanto, a gente tem um EP digital lançado em 2014. Ele tem duas músicas – “Lado Escuro” e “A Vingança de Frank . Esse trabalho tá disponível em várias plataformas: iTunes, Spotify, Vevo, etc. Tem também o nosso SoundCloud onde a gente coloca umas coisas diferentes, gravadas ao vivo e o nosso canal no YouTube, com vários vídeos ao vivo, gravações, ensaios, etc.
No ano passado, a gente participou de algumas coletâneas, inclusive uma em vinil e uma em CD, na Alemanha. Esse ano ainda sai nosso disco físico. A gente já tem várias músicas gravadas e estamos preparando umas novas.

Esse vai ser nosso segundo show em Curitiba. A gente acha que vai ser bem legal. O Curitiba Rock Carnival faz parte da programação paralela do Psycho Carnival, que é um festival bem tradicional na cidade, mas que acontece durante o dia e tem entrada gratuita. Então a gente espera que tenha bastante gente para conhecer nosso som!
